This is something I struggle with, personally.  I am not a huge fan of wasting my time on doomed stuff.  And if you know me at all, then you know that I often weigh the risk of poorly investing.  And if you are paying any attention, there are plenty of reasons to not invest:

  • Limited personal time
  • Limited personal funds
  • Incompatable alternate interests
  • Personal fear
  • Underqualified involvement
  • Overqualified involvement
  • Lack of personal interest

Happy IllustrationI was recently restoring a Windows Vista computer I have owned for a few years now (which resulted in me replacing all of my home computers with Macs) and came across a few illustrations I did a while back.

This work is all for fun but demonstrates my idea of "fun illustration." Only one of the pieces was actually used by a client.  The rest were just practice!

Managing projects to succeed is the goal. Nobody I know in real life makes a blatant decision to fail when starting out on something new. But statistically more projects fail every year (by nearly 2/3rds) than succeed. So, clearly the key to success isn't simply to not want to fail.  You have to "not want to fail" enough that you are willing to do something about it.  In my experience, success begins with writing stuff down. Writing stuff down clearly isn't enough, but it is a big step in the right direction.

I graduated from college in 1997.  It took me five years to get through school mostly because I was paying for it as I went and honestly not quite sure what I would major in until it was almost too late.  Ironically, I was studying business and at the same time taking computer programming classes for fun and quickly needed to pick a major or just sign up to endlessly be a student (which was not something I wanted to do.)  So after talking with the teachers I knew the best, I was ready to switch over from the business department and get a computer science degree while completi

Amazon Book Cover Image: Color Image Scale I wanted to share a few thoughts about a great book called the Color Image Scale

This is my first design blog entry on the new site.  I will be transferring my content over from my blogspot site very soon, as well as created new entries, but I thought I would take a moment to talk about the sort of stuff I intend to talk about on this blog:

I am working pretty hard these days to wrap my brain around all of the capabilities of drupal. And I am thoroughly impressed with the community-contributed modules that absolutely solve so many common issues for most web sites.
In particular, I am in love with views 2, pathauto, and the ability to write wacky php code in arguments of views to contextually manipulate information.  It took a long bit of research to figure that stuff out, but once you'ev got it, it is like riding a bike... you're not likely to soon forget how it works!

My sister Katy is about to return from Ireland and I am pretty geeked.
We have been chatting for a while now about a number of adventures we would like to do once she get's back to the states.  So we should be good to go very soon.  Mind you, she has to settle back in a bit before we take off for some fun.  Christmas is still just right around the corner and then comes New Years.  It should all be very interesting.

Today the new site begins!

I have so much to do on the new site.  I just got it up and running and I still need to transfer a ton of stuff over to it.  But thankfully it will be the first time I have been able to get it all running under one roof since I started in on the web a bit more than 10 years ago.
